The International Retinal Research Foundation (IRRF) supports one-year research projects at nonprofit institutions focused specifically on human eye diseases, particularly macular and peripheral retinal conditions, with funding of up to $100,000 annually; renewals may be considered. Postdoctoral fellowships are available to individuals with a terminal degree pursuing vision research, with salaries based on NIH guidelines. Principal investigators must hold a primary faculty appointment at the instructor level or higher, and awards are made to institutions rather than individuals. Human- or animal-subject research requires appropriate IRB or IACUC approval before funds are released, and indirect costs are limited to 5% of the request.
