James Madison Graduate Fellowships

About this program

The James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation offers $24,000 fellowships to current and aspiring secondary-school teachers pursuing graduate study focused on the U.S. Constitution, including students in the Gettysburg College–Gilder Lehrman MA in American History program. Fellows must complete a four-week Summer Institute on the Constitution and at least 12 semester credits of constitutional coursework, with funding supporting junior or senior fellowship pathways. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, hold or be completing a bachelor’s degree by August 31 of the application year, and teach or intend to teach American history, government, or civics with constitutional content in grades 7–12. Recipients must teach qualifying subjects for one year per academic year of fellowship funding; the 2027 application deadline is March 2, 2027.
