Josephine Forman Scholarship — Graduate scholarship supporting minority students in archival science

About this program

Offered by the General Commission on Archives and History (GCAH) of The United Methodist Church in cooperation with the Society of American Archivists and the SAA Foundation, the Josephine Forman Scholarship awards one $10,000 annual scholarship to support minority students pursuing graduate education in archival science and to promote diversification of the American archives profession. Eligible applicants are U.S. citizens or permanent residents of specified minority backgrounds (American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Middle Eastern/North African, or Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander) who are enrolled in or have applied to a qualifying graduate or multi-course archival administration program (programs must offer at least three archival courses or be listed in the SAA Directory); full- and part-time students are eligible but must have completed no more than half of degree credits at the time of award and must begin or continue enrollment by the fall semester following the award. Application materials include a cover letter and up to a 500-word essay on archival career goals and advancing diversity, a resume, official transcripts, and two letters of recommendation; the award is paid directly to the recipient’s academic program and recipients must submit a 500-word report after their second semester.
