Khaled Al-Asaad Memorial Fellowship

About this program

The Archaeological Institute of America offers two annual Khaled al‑Asaad Memorial Fellowships, each providing a $4,000 stipend to help scholars working on the ancient archaeology of Syria, Iraq, Turkey, or Egypt attend the AIA Annual Meeting and present their research. Applicants must submit an abstract to the AIA Annual Meeting by the March deadline and indicate interest in the fellowship; if the abstract is accepted, candidates will be notified by mid‑May and asked to submit a brief supplemental application by June 1. All foreign scholars studying or working with the ancient archaeology of the listed countries are eligible, with preference given to strong candidates from Syria, Iraq, or Turkey (especially projects in Syria); reasonable dependent‑care expenses are allowable and the AIA maintains a strict non‑discrimination policy.
