MacDowell Fellowship (Artist Residency)

About this program

MacDowell offers residential fellowships providing exclusive studio use, accommodations, and three prepared meals daily for up to eight weeks, with no residency fees and available financial assistance for travel, living expenses, and childcare. Applicants must be artists in architecture, film/video, interdisciplinary arts, literature, music composition, theatre, or visual arts, and selection is based solely on artistic excellence; applicants cannot be enrolled in a degree-seeking program during the residency season (doctoral candidates who have completed coursework may apply). Applications are submitted online with recent work samples (generally within the past four years), include a $30 nonrefundable processing fee (fee waivers available for hardship), and may be submitted only once every 24 months; reference letters are temporarily suspended to improve equity. Notifications are sent about 2.5 months after the deadline, and MacDowell accepts collaborative applications and offers need-based stipends and travel reimbursements to Fellows.
