MacDowell Fellowship Financial Assistance (Stipends & Travel Grants)

About this program

MacDowell offers financial assistance to Fellows to defray travel and residency-related expenses, including need-based stipends (up to $1,500), domestic and international travel reimbursement grants, and a Calderwood Charitable Foundation grant of up to $2,500 for long-form journalism projects. Named Fellowships and other endowed funds may fully sponsor residencies, and all accepted artists are considered for these designations without a separate application. Applicants must first be awarded a MacDowell Fellowship to request stipends or travel grants; awards are distributed based on demonstrated financial need and duration of stay. Travel reimbursements require a brief itemized form and receipts, while the Calderwood journalism grant is allocated via committee review to qualifying Fellows without a separate application.
