Mellon Graduate Fellowship (Society for the Humanities) 2027-28

About this program

The Society for the Humanities at Cornell University, supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, offers two residential Mellon Graduate Fellowships for 2027–28 centered on the theme PLAY; awards include a College of Arts & Sciences tuition waiver, a $35,661 stipend, health insurance, office space at the A.D. White House, and participation in a weekly Fellows Seminar (no teaching duties). Fellows are expected to live and work in Ithaca, engage in a communal research environment, and attend Society events throughout the year. Eligible applicants are Cornell graduate students in humanities programs within the College of Arts & Sciences who have completed the A exam and all requirements except the dissertation by October 30, 2026, and who will be entering their 4th–6th year when the fellowship begins. To apply, email a single PDF with the required materials to humctr@cornell.edu by October 30, 2026, and ensure two letters of recommendation are submitted separately to the same address by that deadline; awards will be announced by the end of December 2026.
