Moody Research Grant

About this program

The LBJ Foundation, underwritten by The Moody Foundation, awards Moody Research Grants of $600–$3,000 to defray living, travel, and related expenses for research conducted at the LBJ Library in support of dissertations, theses, senior papers, publications, and other scholarly projects. Grants may cover airfare or mileage and a $180 per diem for days spent conducting research (including weekend days for visits longer than one week and one travel day); awards are offered in two terms—Fall (June 1–Dec 31; deadline March 15) and Spring (Jan 1–Aug 31; deadline Sept 15)—and cannot be increased or awarded retroactively. Applicants must contact the LBJ Library Archives prior to applying to confirm relevant holdings and submit background/contact information, a one-page CV, a research proposal (up to four double-spaced pages describing title, scope, methodology, expected results, and relation to LBJ holdings), references, estimated travel costs and research/travel days, and up to five prior publications if applicable. Car rental and secretarial/research assistance are ineligible; recipients must use funds within the awarded period, agree not to use the research for political purposes, and provide the LBJ Foundation with copies of any resulting publications.
