About this program

The National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) supports rigorous empirical or theoretical research and replication studies that advance understanding of financial education for U.S. households, individuals, systems, or trends, funding eligible research costs such as researcher time, direct project expenses and up to 15% indirect costs. Projects must generate new data or leverage existing datasets, align with NEFE’s research funding priorities and Personal Finance Ecosystem, prioritize rigorous measures and data-sharing, and must not include commercial/proprietary elements or the development/evaluation of specific programs, courses, or curricula. Principal investigators must be affiliated with a U.S. nonprofit college, university, research organization, or other 501(c)(3); graduate students should include a co‑principal investigator able to substantively support implementation and analysis.
