Neurology Postgraduate Scholarships

About this program

The Neurological Foundation, jointly funded by the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists (ANZAN) and the Neurological Association of New Zealand (NANZ), offers Neurology Postgraduate Scholarships to support outstanding neurology trainees or early‑career neurologists undertaking an MD or PhD in New Zealand to develop internationally competitive and independent research. Awards provide a NZD $100,000 per year stipend for up to three years (maximum NZD $300,000), university course fees where applicable, NZD $5,000 for research working expenses and eligibility to apply for up to NZD $4,500 in travel grants. Applicants must be Australian or New Zealand citizens or New Zealand permanent residents, be members of NANZ (full, junior or associate) and ANZAN (affiliate or full), be enrolled in a New Zealand‑hosted MD or PhD, and must not have previously received this scholarship; recipients cannot hold concurrent scholarships and successful applicants are ineligible to reapply. Applications (with CVs, supervisor letter, transcripts, membership/residency evidence, research description/Gantt chart and any ethics/co‑funding letters) are submitted via the applicant’s Host Institution through the Neurological Foundation’s grants system by the twice‑yearly deadlines (18 March and 18 August) and are assessed by the Foundation’s awards committee with possible interview and final approval by the Foundation Council.
