About this program

The Oral History Association (OHA) offers an annual $1,250 Indigenous Initiative Research Fund to support collaborative, community-based oral history research with Indigenous peoples, offsetting project costs or helping move work toward completion. Awards are judged on project quality and the applicant’s ability to complete stated goals within the funding period. Eligible applicants are oral historians actively engaged in collaborative Indigenous oral history projects; applications must include a project narrative (≤1,300 words), a 300-word statement of relationship/commitment to the Indigenous community(ies), a CV, a project budget, and contact information for two references. The award covers August 1–July 31; recipients must complete work during that period, submit a final report, and are encouraged (with OHA assistance) to present at the next OHA annual meeting; OHA membership is not required.
