Packard Fellowships for Science and Engineering

About this program

The David and Lucile Packard Foundation awards the Packard Fellowships for Science and Engineering, granting 20 early-career university-based scientists and engineers each year $875,000 per fellow (distributed over five years) to pursue flexible, high-risk/high-reward research. Candidates are chosen competitively from nominees at 50 invited U.S. institutions and are expected to be among the nation’s most promising early-career researchers. Fellows may use funds in whatever way best advances their research, and the program is intended to enable transformative work that has led past recipients to major honors such as Nobel Prizes.
