Philip Wrightson Fellowship

About this program

The Neurological Foundation’s Philip Wrightson Fellowship provides personal salary support for outstanding postdoctoral researchers conducting neurological research that advances understanding, prevention, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment or management of central and peripheral nervous system disorders (neuropsychiatric/neuropsychological pathogenesis eligible; projects solely focused on mental health disorder management are not eligible). Awards cover up to two years’ salary plus salary‑associated costs (research FTE must be ≥80% per year; total FTE ≤200%; maximum term 2.5 years if at 80% FTE) and recipients may separately apply for travel grants up to NZD 4,500; relocation, institutional overheads and salaries already funded are excluded. Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents who were awarded their PhD more than two and less than five years before the closing date (exceptions may be granted for significant non‑research periods), must not have previously received a fellowship for the proposed project, and mentors are generally limited to one Philip Wrightson application per round. Applications are submitted via the host institution through the Foundation’s Grants Management System with required supporting documents and are assessed by external reviewers and the Foundation’s Personal Awards Committee; shortlisted applicants may be invited to interview (contact: research@neurological.org.nz).
