About this program

Neurological Foundation Project Grants fund clinical and biomedical neurological research led by clinicians and scientists based in New Zealand, supporting stand‑alone or complementary project questions with awards up to NZD 300,000 for up to three years (equipment up to NZD 15,000; separate post‑award travel grants capped at NZD 4,500). Eligible applicants are scientifically or medically qualified investigators (postdoctoral fellows, clinicians, academics) conducting NZ‑based research; investigators may be named on only one application per round unless from a different department or group. Applications must be submitted through the applicant’s Host Institution via the Foundation’s Grants Management System and include NZ Standard CVs or employer letters, a budget, research description and Gantt chart, and relevant letters/ethics approvals; the Foundation will not fund project completion, institutional overheads, or salaries for staff already paid by their institution. Grants are offered twice yearly (1 April and 1 September deadlines), applications are peer reviewed and assessed by the Foundation’s committees, and only one resubmission of an unsuccessful Project Grant is permitted; enquiries to research@neurological.org.nz.
