About this program

Rothman Opioid Foundation offers Research Grants to support small, R03‑style studies addressing the opioid crisis, including opioid‑sparing/mitigating pain strategies, social/behavioral determinants of substance abuse, and evaluations of alternative pain solutions such as medical cannabis and non‑pharmacologic modalities. Awards are up to $10,000 for a one‑year project with $5,000 disbursed at acceptance and the remaining $5,000 upon study completion and submission to a peer‑reviewed journal; grant funds may be used for direct costs and publication fees but not for indirect costs, travel, or presentations. Eligible applicants are academic or research professionals with an academic appointment in relevant fields (opioid abuse, pain management, substance abuse, psychology, public health); graduate/professional students and resident physicians may apply only with a qualifying faculty mentor. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and must include project title, principal investigator (and faculty mentor if applicable), research narrative, IRB approval or proof of application, budget with justification, PI CV, mentor support letter for student PIs, and biosketches for additional investigators.
