About this program

Russell Sage Foundation offers 10‑month residential Visiting Scholar fellowships (September–June) — with optional half‑year terms — for 15–17 researchers in the social, economic, political, and behavioral sciences to pursue data analysis and writing at its New York City headquarters; applications are typically due at the end of June (next deadline June 2026). Fellows receive an office, computing and library access, subsidized local housing and childcare support where needed, and salary support up to 50% of academic salary (maximum $150,000 full year; $75,000 half year), with limited exceptions permitting greater support in specific circumstances. Applicants must be at least two years beyond the PhD, be prepared to be in residence at least 75% of RSF open days, and generally pursue projects aligned with RSF core program areas.
