About this program

California Council on Science and Technology (CCST) seeks up to two Senior AI Fellows to be embedded at the California Department of Technology through its AI Science Residency Program to advise on AI policy, safety, governance and adoption (with emphasis on frontier AI, risk management, models, developers, and statutory thresholds) for a limited-term, full-time placement Sept 2026–Aug 2027 (possible extension); positions are CCST employment with salary $120,000–$150,000, benefits, remote within California and occasional travel to Sacramento. Applicants must hold either a graduate degree with subject-matter expertise in AI policy/governance or multiple years of specialized professional experience (e.g., frontier models, AI safety, risk assessment, transparency, accountability, cybersecurity), be legally authorized to work in the U.S., be physically based in California, and be available full-time for at least one year.
