Small Project Grants

About this program

The Neurological Foundation offers Small Project Grants to support small-scale neurological research, pilot studies or purchase of equipment based in New Zealand, providing up to NZD 20,000 per award for projects of up to three years. Eligible applicants are PhD students, postdoctoral fellows, clinicians and academics, with investigators limited to one named application per round unless from a different department or research group; applications must be submitted through and reviewed by the host institution. Fundable costs include working expenses, equipment usable across projects, and salaries for postdoctoral fellows, research assistants and technicians (only actual ACC and superannuation for salary costs); the Foundation will not fund completion of existing projects, salaries for permanently employed clinicians or scientists, institutional overheads or travel. Grants are awarded twice yearly (deadlines 1 April and 1 September), assessed by the Foundation’s Scientific Advisory Committee and National Council, and require NZ Standard CVs, a budget in NZD, a Description of Proposed Research with Gantt chart, and relevant letters, ethics approvals and quotes; one resubmission is permitted.
