About this program
The AAFP Foundation offers Student Externship Matching Grants to AAFP Chapters and Chapter Foundations to support medical student clinical and/or research externships in Family Medicine. Each grant provides $1,250 toward a $2,500 externship, with approximately 24 awards available per cycle. Applicants must be AAFP Chapters or Chapter Foundations with secured matching funds and an externship plan lasting at least four weeks. The experience must provide one-on-one mentorship with Family Medicine physicians; applications are accepted February 1–April 1, and medical schools and students may not apply directly.
