About this program
The AAFP Foundation offers Student Externship Matching Grants to AAFP Chapters and Chapter Foundations to support medical student clinical and/or research externships in Family Medicine. Each $1,250 matching grant contributes to a $2,500 externship and supports a minimum four-week, one-on-one experience with a Family Medicine mentor or preceptor. Applicants must be AAFP Chapters or Chapter Foundations that have secured the required dollar-for-dollar match and will administer the externship; medical schools and students are not eligible to apply. Applications are accepted February 1–April 1, with awards allocated sequentially based on submission time.
