SVS Foundation Mentored Research Career Development Awards

About this program

The SVS Foundation provides Mentored Research Career Development Awards as supplemental funding to clinically trained vascular surgeon–scientists who have received mentored K awards from NIH or AHRQ (eligible mechanisms include K08, K23, NHLBI K01 and AHRQ K08) to support development into independent investigators in biomedical, translational, behavioral, or patient‑oriented research. Awards deliver $50,000 per year to the awardee’s institution for salary support or project‑related expenses (no indirect costs or travel), for up to five years (or up to three years for certain awards), with annual SVSF funding contingent on continued NIH/AHRQ support. Eligible applicants must be Active or Candidate members of the Society for Vascular Surgery and Fellows or Associate Fellows of the American College of Surgeons, hold an MD or equivalent, have completed vascular surgery training, identify a mentor with substantial research experience, and meet NIH/AHRQ percent‑effort requirements. Applicants must submit the complete K application to NIH or AHRQ by the agency deadlines and also email an electronic copy to the SVS Foundation (SVSFoundation@vascularsociety.org); awardees must provide annual progress reports to the Foundation.
