SVS Foundation Mentored Research Career Development Awards

About this program

The SVS Foundation (with select co‑sponsorship by the American College of Surgeons) offers Mentored Research Career Development Awards that provide supplemental funding to clinically trained vascular surgeons who hold eligible NIH or AHRQ mentored career development awards (e.g., K08, K23, NHLBI K01, AHRQ K08) to support their development into independent investigators in biomedical, translational, behavioral, or patient‑oriented research. Awards provide $50,000 per year to the awardee’s institution (no indirect costs) for up to five years—or up to three years for certain awards—to be used for salary or project‑related expenses, contingent on continued NIH/AHRQ funding. Applicants must hold an MD or equivalent, have completed vascular surgery training, be an Active or Early Active member of the Society for Vascular Surgery and a Fellow or Associate Fellow of the ACS, identify a mentor with substantial research experience, and meet NIH/AHRQ percent‑effort requirements. Submit the complete NIH/AHRQ application on the agency deadline and email one electronic copy to SVSFoundation@vascularsociety.org (NHLBI applicants also copy Wayne Wang); funded NIH/AHRQ awards undergo secondary review by the SVS Research Council and awardees are notified in May.
