The Theodor W. Hänsch Prize in Quantum Optics, funded by Hamamatsu Photonics, MenloSystems, and Thorlabs and administered through Optica/Foundation, awards USD 20,000 plus travel to the Quantum 2.0 meeting to support early-career researchers pursuing innovative quantum optics projects with potential for fundamental or translational impact. Recipients receive full research freedom to advance basic science or transition ideas toward commercial applications. Eligibility requires Optica membership and early-career status (typically 1–5 years post–highest degree) with active research in quantum optics (examples: metrology, quantum cryptography/keys, computing, single-photon sources, low-noise detectors, optical traps/cold atoms); recognized career breaks (e.g., parental leave, illness, military service, COVID-19 disruptions) are accommodated. Applications require a CV (≤4 pages), a 150-word summary, a research proposal (≤2 pages) describing impact and use of funds, one example publication, and two letters of recommendation.
