VJ Chapman Fellowship

About this program

Neurological Foundation’s VJ Chapman Fellowship funds medical graduates to pursue academic careers in neurology, neurosurgery or neuropathology by supporting clinical or biomedical research (which may be combined with advanced clinical training) and provides salary support up to 1.0 FTE plus salary‑associated costs for up to two years. Fellows must dedicate at least 50% of their time to research; awards may be held outside New Zealand or within NZ with significant international collaboration, and related travel grants can be applied for (combined cap NZD 4,500). Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents who are medical graduates enrolled in or recently completed advanced clinical training, and applications are submitted by the Host Institution with required documentation (NZ standard CVs, mentor letters, evidence of training, research plan/Gantt and any relevant co‑funding or ethics approvals).
