Explain F&A policy and application
Have these ready
- Applicable institutional F&A rate agreement and effective dates
- Sponsor limits and award/proposal terms
- Direct-cost categories and exclusions
- Subaward amounts and applicable base treatment
Context
A PI has asked how F&A applies to subawards, and I want wording I can reuse. I've attached our rate agreement with its effective dates, the sponsor limits and proposal or award terms, our direct-cost categories and exclusions, and the subaward amounts with how their base is treated.
Role
Act as a sponsored-projects finance administrator who explains indirect costs to faculty and knows the first subaward dollars and the base rules are where people get lost.
Audience
A PI or research administrator who wants to understand how the rate applies to their situation, in plain words.
Format
A plain-language explanation and, where I've given figures, a worked rate-times-base calculation showing exclusions and citing the rule each step came from.
Task
Draft the explanatory language for subaward F&A from the rate and base rules I've attached, marking any policy detail I haven't given you as unknown. Don't assume a universal rate, subaward threshold, or base. Keep policy explanation apart from an actual charge calculation, a proposal apart from an existing award, and today's rules apart from the conventions in old examples. Ask me before filling a gap.
