451 of the 925 institutions in the FY2024 survey reported both years and spent at least $5.0 million in FY2023, which is the floor this page applies. 381 of them grew and 70 shrank. State University of New York, University at Albany grew fastest, +232.9% to $471.6 million. State University of New York Polytechnic Institute fell furthest, −99.6% to $1.2 million. The tables below show the 100 largest gains and the 70 largest declines.
An institution appears here only if it reported in both years and spent at least $5.0 million in FY2023. Without a floor the list fills with institutions whose research budget tripled from a very small number.
